Momentum Bank Ballpark

The RockHounds and Frisco went to extra innings for the second consecutive game Wednesday night at Momentum Bank Ballpark, but this one had an interesting twist. Frisco’s starting catcher had a blown save and took the loss.

With Frisco out of available arms, Jordan Procyshen, was summoned to the mound in the last of the 10th to protect a 4-3 Riders lead. The catcher, who (to be blunt) does NOT throw hard, gave up the tying run on a Tyler Ramirez single, but ONLY one. He escaped, thanks in part to Jake Hoover’s sliding catch of Jonah Bride’s line drive to left then ended the inning with a strikeout (of Kyle McCann).

After Zach Jackson (see “Kibbles & Bits”) kept Frisco off the board in the top of the 11th, Marty Bechina’s ground ball to the right side pushed pinch runner Yerdel Vargas to third base and Devin Foyle’s sharp grounder, deflected by third baseman Sherten Apostle, brought home the game-winner.

For the first seven innings, runs were (again) tough to come by. Frisco took leads of 2-0 and 3-1 before the ‘Hounds rallied back to draw within one run in the eighth (on a Bechina double and an RBI single from Jhonny Santos) and forged a tie in the ninth (on an RBI single from Ramirez).

The RockHounds evened the six-game series at one apiece (both games decided by a single run in extra innings) and moved into a second-place tie with Amarillo (10-10), three-and-a-half games behind Frisco in the Double-A Central.

Kibbles & Bits

Reliever Zach Jackson, who earned the win Wednesday night, has been outstanding. Ironically, took the loss Tuesday when Frisco scored the winning (unearned) run on a strikeout and a wild pitch. In nine appearances, Zach (1-1) has allowed two (unearned) runs on just two hits in 10⅓ innings, with four walks and 21 strikeouts (a 0.00 ERA, a 0.56 WHIP, and a 5-to-1 strikeouts-to walks ratio).
