Just as the famous line says, “all good things must come to an end.”

The Amarillo Sod Poodles built a 4-0 lead and held on for a 4-3 win, snapping the RockHounds’ eight-game win streak Wednesday night at Momentum Bank Ballpark.

Dominic Fletcher’s solo home run in the top of the first opened the scoring and would stand up as the final margin of victory.

Jancarlos Stanton led off the third with a double and scored on Stone Garrett’s RBI single for a 2-0 Amarillo advantage.

Three consecutive hits pushed the Sod Poodles’ lead to 4-0 in the top of the fifth. Dominic Miroglio doubled, and Cintron followed with a single, advancing to second base on the throw from the outfield. Alek Thomas then sent a sharp ground ball to the right side, narrowly eluding the gloves of (first baseman) Kyle McCann and (second baseman) Max Schuemann, scoring both Miroglio and Cintron.

Amarillo starter Luis Frias was dominant through most of his five-inning appearance, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out seven, but the RockHounds put together a three-run rally against the Arizona Diamondbacks 40-man roster member right-hander in the fifth.

Jake Suddleson reached on an infield single, compounded by a throwing error, and went to third on McCann’s ground out. Schuemann drew a walk, putting runners at the corners. Chase Calabuig’s ground ball to shortstop pushed Suddleson home and Calabuig beat the throw to first to break up a potential inning-ending double play. Mickey McDonald followed with his first home run of the season, a two-run drive down the right field line, bringing the ‘Hounds to within 4-3.

Both bullpens were outstanding, with neither allowing a run. Jeff Bain and Keegan Garret each earned a “hold,” with Blake Rogers closing the door for the save.

Amarillo evened the series at a game apiece and the season series between the clubs at 7-7 (the first 12 games were played at Amarillo).

Kibbles & Bits

JJ Schwarz went 2-for-4, extending his on-base streak to 21 games. He is hitting .375 in the streak (27-for-72) with a .458 on-base percentage.

Reliever Jack Weisenburger had perhaps his best outing since joining the RockHounds (from High-A Lansing), allowing one hit and striking out four batters in two scoreless innings.
