HODGETOWN Amarillo, Texas -- Jake Suddleson had a “career night” and Devin Foyle continued to make himself “at home at HODGTOWN,” as the RockHounds defeated the Amarillo Sod Poodles, 13-4, Thursday night in the Panhandle.

A seven-run seventh inning was the difference as the ‘Hounds broke open a 3-3 tie and went on to their second straight win in the series.

Hitting eighth and ninth in the order, respectively, Suddleson and Foyle combined to go 5-for-8, each with a home, three runs scored and two driven in. Suddleson (3-for-5) singled and scored on a third-inning home run off the bat of Foyle (2-for3) to open the scoring in the third inning and hit his second home run in as many nights leading off the fifth to give the RockHounds a 3-1 lead.

After Amarillo tied the game with a pair of runs in the sixth, the RockHounds sent 10 men to the plate in the top of the seventh, scoring seven times, to break the game open. Nick Allen and Kyle McCann each had a two-run double and JJ Schwarz capped the inning with a two-run home run.

For the second consecutive night, the RockHounds got production up-and-down the batting order (in this case highlighted by the # 8 and # 9 hitters ... see “Kibble & Bits,” below).

Every ‘Hounds hitter had at least one hit and scored at least one run … and six hitters had multi-RBI games.

The final margin of victory overshadows his performance, but Jared Koenig was, again, outstanding. The left-hander recorded a “quality start,” allowing three runs on five hits and one walk while striking out six batters (see below).

After dropping 5-of-6 at San Antonio (and the opener at Amarillo), the ‘Hounds have outscored the Sod Poodles, 22-6, in winning two straight in the (six-game) series.

Jake Suddleson’s “career night” came in just his 31st professional game. He was signed last July (during the “lost season”) as a non-drafted free agent after a collegiate career at Harvard. In his last two games, Jake is 5-for-9 with a pair of home runs.

Speaking of “career games,” Devin Foyle had one on May 20 at Amarillo, going 3-for-4 with a triple, two home runs and six RBI. Including his outstanding night at the dish Thursday, Devin is 8-for-15, with a triple, three HR and nine runs batted in at HODGETOWN.

Jeremy Eierman extended his hit streak to 11 games (14-45, .311) and is hitting .306 in the month of June.

How good has Jared Koenig been? While pushing his record to 3-0 with the solid six innings, his ERA went “up” to 2.08.
