We all know that 2020 was a “lost season” but, for Bubba Thompson, 2019 was a virtually lost campaign as well. The former first round draft choice of the Texas Rangers was sidelined much the year due to injuries. Baseball is back … and Bubba is making up for lost time.

Thompson hit two home runs and added a three-run double Thursday night, driving in the first four runs of the game to lead Frisco to a 7-0 win at Riders Field in the Metroplex. Thompson’s first home run broke a scoreless tie in the fourth and his three-run double one inning later was part of a five-run frame that put the game fully in the RoughRiders’ control. His second home run of the night pushed his RBI total for the game to five.

In three games to open the season, Bubba has two home runs, two triples, one double and seven runs batted in. (He is pictured earlier in his minor league career with Rangers affiliate the Hickory Crawdads).

Four Frisco pitchers combined for a three-hit shutout, although the RockHounds had their opportunities, loading the bases in three different innings, twice with no outs. The first of those missed chances came with the game scoreless in the third inning.

The RoughRiders have won the first three games of the season-opening six-game series which runs through Sunday in the Metroplex.

Kibbles & Bits

Former Texas Tech Red Raider Ty Damron was solid in his first Double-A start. The RockHounds left-hander went four innings and allowed one run (Bubba Thompson’s first home run) on three hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Ty was selected by Oakland in the 15th round of the 2016 draft out of Texas Tech.
