Manchester, N.H. - The Eastern League announced today that Fisher Cats catcher Reese McGuire has earned Player of the Week honors for the period of August 14 - 20.
McGuire, who began the season ranked among the top 10 MLB catching prospects by MLB.com, went 8-for-15 (.533) with three home runs in four games this past week.
The 22-year-old from Seattle, Wash. was selected with the 14th overall pick in the 2013 draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was traded to the Blue Jays organization at last year's deadline as part of the deal that sent Drew Hutchison to Pittsburgh, while Francisco Liriano, Harold Ramirez and McGuire went to the Blue Jays.
McGuire hit a home run in three consecutive games from August 15 - 19, and collected five hits in two games against his former team, the Altoona Curve (Pirates Double-A affiliate). McGuire has earned the Fisher Cats first weekly honor of 2017, which comes with 15 days remaining in the Eastern League regular season.

The Fisher Cats begin a three-game road series against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (New York Mets), tonight, and will face MLB rehabber Matt Harvey at 6:35 p.m.
The team returns home on Thursday for its final homestand of 2017, with a four-game weekend series against the Hartford Yard Goats (Colorado Rockies). The homestand features Atlas Fireworks on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with a pre-game on field balloon sword fight for the season finale on Sunday.
