In just over two weeks, baseball season will begin at FirstEnergy Stadium when the Reading Phillies take on the Portland Sea Dogs on Thursday, April 5 in an Opening Day doubleheader. Fans will be admitted to both games with the purchase of a single ticket.

Game One will start at 4:05 p.m. with VIST Financial Plaza gates opening at 2:00 p.m. for the double bill. Immediately following the first game will be a special on-field ceremony honoring the late deputy sheriff Kyle Pagerly and his family. Following the ceremony, Game Two will begin at approximately 7:05 p.m. Both games will last seven innings.

“With two games on April 5, R-Phils fans can make a choice of which game they want to attend,” said Reading Phillies General Manager Scott Hunsicker. “It’s the best of both worlds---for those who prefer an afternoon Opening Day, come to the 4:05 p.m. and stay for the ceremony. For those who would rather like Opening Night, come to the 7:05 p.m. and plan on getting here early for the ceremony. Of course, ticket holders are welcome to stay for both games and all the festivities that go along with the doubleheader.”

The first 2,500 adults 21 and over through the gates during the day will receive a Ryan Howard/ Crazy Hot Dog Vendor double bobblehead. The giveaway honors two of Baseballtown’s most cherished personalities courtesy of All Star Distributing/Coors Light. The duo both made their first appearance at FirstEnergy Stadium in 2004, with the Crazy Hot Dog Vendor famously surprising Howard at the 2006 Baseballtown Winter Banquet. An R-Phils Dance Team Poster will also be given to first 2,500 adults 15 and over.

In addition to the between game ceremony, the Reading Phillies will be wearing a honorary jersey that will be raffled and auctioned after the tribute in VIST Financial Plaza. The jerseys reflect the late Pagerly’s time with the K-9 unit of the Berks County Sheriff’s Department. Each jersey will feature a patch on the sleeve recognizing his badge number.
