Where Are They Now: Josh Bell

February 19, 2013

The Baysox 20th season at Prince George's Stadium is just around the corner. During the past 19 years, hundreds of players have come through Bowie - some have stopped in for just a few weeks and others have been here for years before moving on with their careers. During the offseason, check back to baysox.com to find out where some of those players are now.

Third baseman Josh Bell was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the fourth round of the 2005 First Year Player Draft out of high school in Florida. After playing his first season in the Gulf Coast League, he was named a Pioneer League Postseason All-Star following the 2006 season with Ogden.

By the start of the 2009 season, Bell had advanced to Double-A Chattanooga where he was named to the Southern League Mid-Season All-Star Game. In 94 games with Chattanooga, Bell batted .296 with 30 doubles and 52 RBI before being traded to Baltimore with pitcher Steve Johnson in exchange for reliever George Sherrill.

Following the trade, Bell joined the Baysox where he continued his success, batting .346 with 24 RBI in 33 games. Following the 2009 season, Bell was named the 37th best prospect in Minor League Baseball by Baseball America.

Bell began the 2010 season with Triple-A Norfolk, but was later promoted to Baltimore, where he made his Major League debut July 1, 2010. Between 2010 and 2011, Bell played in a total of 79 games with the Orioles, batting .200 with 18 RBI, while spending the rest of his time with Norfolk.

After beginning this past season in the Orioles organization, Bell was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks April 21 in exchange for pitcher Mike Belfiore. Bell appeared in 21 games with the Diamondbacks, but spent most of the season with Triple-A Reno, where he hit .311 with 25 doubles and 75 RBI en route to winning the Triple-A Championship.
