Late Comeback Attempt Falls Short For Tides

NORFOLK, VA --- The Norfolk Tides (30-11) fell to the Syracuse Mets (17-25), 5-4, on Thursday at Harbor Park. The loss was the first of the series for the Tides, but still lead, 2-1.
In the bottom of the half of the first, the Tide broke the scoring open when Jordan Westburg blasted a line drive over the left field wall to make it 1-0. It was his 12th home run of the the season his seventh in the month of May.
Syracuse took the lead in the third by scoring three runs. Former Tide DJ Stewart knocked an RBI single to tie the game. With the bases loaded, Tim Locastro was hit by a pitch to give the Mets the lead. Carlos Cortes would walk with the bases loaded to put Syracuse up, 3-1.
The Mets would add to their lead with another run in the fifth. With one out and runners on first and third, Locastro hit a soft ground ball to second base that could have been a double play but he beat it out at first to put Syracuse up, 4-1.
The Tides would even the game at 4-4 through the seventh inning. Two runs were scored in the sixth, starting with Kyle Stowers hit ting an RBI infield single. With the bases loaded, Lewin Díaz hit a sacrifice game to put the score at 4-3. In the seventh, Anthony Bemboom hit a leadoff triple, then scored on an RBI single by Maverick Handley to tie the game.
In the eighth, Syracuse retook the lead with an RBI single by Carlos Cortes to make it 5-4. Rich Dubrell entered the ninth to close out the game for the Mets, clinching their 5-4 victory.
Game four of the series is set for tomorrow at Harbor Park with first pitch at 6:35 p.m. The Tides with start LHP Drew Rom (4-1, 3.71), while Syracuse is scheduled to throw LHP Joey Lucchesi (2-0, 2.30).

Stowers Powers: Going 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI was Kyle Stowers...it was his sixth multi-hit game for the Tides this season...Stowers rides a nine-game on-base streak, where he’s hitting .370 (10-for-27) with 11 runs, four home runs, eight RBI and 10 walks (.486 OBP)...the RBI was his 107th with the Tides, tying him for 13th all-time as an Orioles affiliate with Chance Sisco...Stowers immediately trails Josh Bell (109).
Handley Handles: Getting a multi-hit game was Maverick Handley, who went 2-for-4 with an RBI...it was his third multi-hit game this season, with his most previous being his four-hit game on April 8 vs. Gwinnett.
Daz-Manian Devil: The final Tide to have multiple hits today was Daz Cameron, who went 2-for-4...it was his sixth multi-hit game this season...Daz rides a 10-game on-base streak, hitting .333 (12-for-36) with five runs, three doubles, a home run, five RBI and five walks (.419 OBP).
