Highly-touted Orioles pitching prospect Kyle Bradish made his Tides debut on Tuesday night against the Charlotte Knights and Norfolk took advantage of a handful of Charlotte errors to come away with the team’s second straight walk-off win.
The Knights jumped out in front in the second inning, as shortstop Zach Remillard doubled home catcher Seby Zavala with two outs. Three consecutive Charlotte hits in the top of the third added another run, putting Norfolk in a quick 2-0 hole.
Norfolk roared back to tie the game in the home fourth. Tides center fielder Ryan McKenna smacked a leadoff single to left field and advanced to third on a two-base error by Charlotte left fielder Gavin Sheets. An RBI groundout from Austin Wynns scored McKenna, while a double from Rylan Bannon and an RBI single from Seth Mejias-Brean knotted the score at two.
Bradish, the No. 12 Orioles prospect, threw 3.1 innings and allowed two runs on five hits and three walks in his first game at the Triple-A level. He struck out four hitters and threw 48 of his 77 pitches for strikes, also touching 96 mph with his fastball.
Baltimore acquired Bradish from the Angels as part of the deal that sent right-hander Dylan Bundy to Anaheim. He was extremely impressive in three starts to begin the year with Double-A Bowie, not allowing an earned run in his first 13.2 innings pitched and striking out 26 of 52 total batters faced.
Charlotte took the lead once again in the top of the seventh. A single, Norfolk error and a double led to an unearned run off of Tides reliever Konner Wade (3.2IP, 3H, 2R/1ER, 0BB, 3K).
In the bottom of the eighth, Tides second baseman Ramon Urias roped a leadoff single and later advanced to third on a throwing error. First baseman Tyler Nevin blasted a double into right-center field to tie the game. A walk by Austin Wynns and another Knights error loaded the bases with one out for Seth Mejias-Brean, who grounded into an RBI fielder’s choice to give Norfolk a 4-3 lead.

With two outs and the bases empty in the top of the ninth, Charlotte’s Adam Engel lifted a fly ball that stayed just inside the left field foul pole for a game-tying homer.
In the bottom of the ninth, Norfolk’s first two batters reached. Urias attempted to lay down a sacrifice bunt, but Charlotte pitcher Danny Dopico threw wildly to first. The ball skipped down the line, scoring pinch runner Wilbis Santiago from second and giving the Tides their second consecutive walk-off victory.
