RedHawks Record Eighth-Straight Win

Oklahoma City Wins, 7-6, Friday to Sweep Reno
August 2, 2013

Oklahoma City - The Oklahoma City RedHawks extended their winning streak to a season-best eight games Friday as they hung on for a 7-6 win against the Reno Aces in front of 6,138 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

The RedHawks built a 7-1 lead through five innings, but Reno fought back and scored four runs in the top of the eighth to cut Oklahoma City's lead to one run.

Oklahoma City (64-50) improved to a season-high 14 games above .500. The RedHawks swept their four-game series with Reno (45-69) and improved to 8-0 during the current homestand.

Shortstop Marwin Gonzalez went 3-for-3, including a double and home run, with a RBI and two runs scored for the RedHawks. Catcher Rene Garcia went 2-for-3 with two RBI and also scored two runs for Oklahoma City, which entered the game in a tie with Albuquerque for first place in the PCL American Southern Division standings.

RedHawks starting pitcher Asher Wojciechowski (7-4) recorded the win, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out three in seven innings. Jorge De Leon picked up his first save of the season.

Reno scored first Friday on a RBI double by Tyler Bortnick in the third inning.

The RedHawks answered in the bottom of the inning on Brandon Laird's RBI single to tie the game, 1-1.

Oklahoma City went ahead, 4-1, in the bottom of the fourth. A home run by Gonzalez into the Reno bullpen in right field led off the inning and put the RedHawks ahead by one run. A sacrifice bunt by Che-Hsuan Lin put Oklahoma City in front, 3-1. A RBI double by Trevor Crowe gave Oklahoma City a three-run advantage.

The RedHawks added three more runs in the fifth. A two-RBI single by Garcia gave Oklahoma City a 6-1 edge. Lin reached on a fielding error by left fielder Juan Rivera and Garcia scored for a six-run lead.

Reno's comeback started in the sixth inning on a RBI single by Mike Jacobs.

The Aces added four more runs in the eighth. Jacobs' RBI single with the bases loaded cut Oklahoma City's lead to four runs with one out. A two-RBI double by Rivera and a Brad Snyder groundout brought Reno within one run, 7-6.

Reno starting pitcher Garrett Mock (8-6) took the loss. He gave up four runs on nine hits, walked one and struck out one in 4.0 innings.

Oklahoma City's 12-game homestand continues with the start of a four-game series against Colorado Springs at 7:05 p.m. Saturday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

Saturday is Pack the Park Pink, presented by MidFirst Bank. The RedHawks will wear special pink jerseys, which will be auctioned off during the game, with proceeds benefitting Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to show their support. The RedHawks will recognize this month's Chesapeake Community All-Star and OKC Disc Dogs are also scheduled to perform throughout Saturday's game.
