Dodgers Clip 'Cakes, 6-5

Metairie, La. - Will Smith homered twice and the Oklahoma City Dodgers ended the game with a ground ball double play after New Orleans Baby Cakes loaded the bases with one out in the ninth inning, holding on for a 6-5 win at the Shrine on Airline Tuesday night.
The Dodgers took a 6-4 lead into the bottom of the ninth inning, but the Baby Cakes put runners at the corners with one out. After a wild pitch by Jaime Schultz scored a run, the next two batters walked to load the bases with one out. 
On the first pitch from JT Chargois, Yaidel Rivera sent a ground ball to the left side on the infield. Shortstop Daniel Castro made a sliding stop to his left and quickly threw to second base for one out. Jake Peter then rapidly turned and threw to first base to beat Rivera by a step to complete the double play and end the game.
The Dodgers (16-27) never trailed, but any time they padded their lead, the Baby Cakes (24-22) came back.
The Dodgers opened the scoring in the second inning. After an error and a single put runners at the corners, Peter flicked a RBI single to left-center field to put OKC ahead, 1-0.
Smith added to the lead in the third inning when he blasted his seventh home run of the season. Smith's shot went past the light stanchion in left-center field and made it a 2-0 game.
New Orleans put up a run in the bottom of the inning on a RBI infield single by Monté Harrison. Later in the inning with runners at the corners and one out, JT Riddle grounded into a double play, keeping the Dodgers in front.
Smith cranked his second homer in the fifth inning. Following a leadoff double by Shane Peterson, Smith sent another rocket to left-center field to stretch the lead to 4-1.
Tuesday marked Smith's second career multi-homer game and first since April 23, 2017 while playing for High-A Rancho Cucamonga. He finished Tuesday's game with a game-high three hits and three RBI.
The Dodgers still were up by three runs until Isan Díaz hit a two-run double in the seventh inning, trimming the score to 4-3.
OKC caught a big break in the top of the eighth inning to get some more breathing room. With the bases loaded and one out, Zach Reks hits a ground ball toward the middle. Riddle fielded the ball and stepped on second base for the force out, but his throw to first base was low and past Matt Snyder, allowing two runs to score on the play.
Snyder answered with a RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning, putting New Orleans back within two runs at 6-4.
Dodgers starting pitcher Daniel Corcino (3-1) allowed one run over five innings to earn the win. He allowed three hits, with two walks and three strikeouts.
For the second time this season, OKC scored at least four runs against New Orleans starting pitcher Héctor Noesi, who allowed four runs (three earned) and six hits over five innings. Noesi (4-2) walked two and struck out five.
