Destino leaves yard three times for Dash

Alex Destino had seven home runs through the season’s first two months. After a monster night on Thursday, he’s got more than that in July alone.

The White Sox outfield prospect posted the first three-homer game of his career as part of a 4-for-5 night with four RBIs as High-A Winston-Salem fell at Greensboro, 9-8.

In the potent top third of the Dash lineup, Destino got his big night started with a single to right field in the top of the first inning. Following a flyout to left in the third, the 25-year-old went on his power binge.

Destino lined a solo shot to left-center in the sixth and followed with a two-run homer to left in the seventh. In the ninth, he cranked his third of the night to right, a solo blast that was the only pulled long ball of the left-handed slugger’s night and gave Winston-Salem a briefly held 8-7 lead.

Leadoff man Lenyn Sosa (the No. 22 White Sox prospect) and two-hole hitter Yoelqui Cespedes (No. 2) both homered and went 2-for-5, and Destino’s performance gave Winston-Salem’s top third of the order eight of their team’s 11 hits.

On Wednesday, Destino went 3-for-5 with a homer and four RBIs, and a late July surge at the plate has boosted the former South Carolina Gamecock's slash line from .228/.320/.425 entering play on July 15 to .253/.339/.498 after Thursday night.

Over his last 13 games, Destino is batting .346/.414/.769 with six of the eight homers he's hit in July. The Weaverville, North Carolina native boasts six multi-hit games over the past two weeks. The trifecta became his first multi-homer game since June 1, when he belted a pair of solo shots also at Greensboro.
