Rancho Cucamonga, CA – The Stockton Ports got out to a big lead on Saturday night and then held on for a 6-4 win over the Quakes, keeping the Quakes from getting a series-win at LoanMart Field.

Stockton’s four-run fifth broke open a 1-0 game, helping to give the Ports their second win through the first five games of the six-game series.

Quakes’ starter Ben Casparius pitched well, but was victimized for an unearned run in the second, as the Ports grabbed a 1-0 lead.

The score remained until the fifth, as Casparius (0-2) allowed two to reach to start the inning, but then got two outs. Due to pitch count though, he was removed, giving way to Roque Gutierrez, who promptly allowed a two-run single to Max Muncy and a two-run homer to Junior Perez, as the score became 5-0.

The Quakes got two in the fifth and then single runs in the seventh and eighth, closing the gap to one at 5-4.

The Ports got an insurance run in the ninth, then held on as closer Hunter Breault earned his fourth save by getting Luis Diaz to ground into a double-play.

Stockton starter Mitch Myers (1-2) earned the win by allowing just two runs (one earned) on eight hits over six innings.

Damon Keith had three hits and two RBIs, while Yeiner Fernandez had two hits and knocked in a run.

The Quakes (20-12) can still win the series with a victory in the finale on Sunday, as they send Maddux Bruns (0-0) to the mound against Stockton’s Blake Beers (1-1) at 2pm.

Sunday is another U.S. Bank Youth Clinic, as with the purchase of a ticket to the game, kids can get on-field instruction from Quakes players and coaches, starting at 10am. Tickets are available at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you at LoanMart Field...Go Quakes!
