Pinto flirts with history in first AA win

Ricardo Pinto took a no-hitter into the seventh inning

Ricardo Pinto (1-1) finally earned his first double-A win as the Fightin Phils (23-11) shutout the Trenton Thunder (17-15) on Thursday night 3-0. Pinto retired 17 out of the first 20 batters he faced before giving up a single to Tyler Austin in the bottom of the seventh.  

Reading took a 2-0 lead over the Thunder in the top of the second inning. Rhys Hoskins led off the inning with a double then Jake Fox walked in the following at-bat. Angelo Mora moved the runners over with a sacrifice bunt. Aaron Brown grounded out to second-base, which allowed Hoskins to score. Jesmuel Valentin hit a RBI single to score Fox and give the Fightins their second run.

Dylan Cozens homered for his third straight game and in five out of his last six games. Hit hit a one-out solo home run off Cale Coshow in the top of the third inning to give the Fightin Phils a 3-0 lead.

Hoby Milner pitched two scoreless innings in relief to earn his first save of his career. He gave up one hit and recorded three strikeouts. The Fightin Phils had five hits in the game.  

The Fightin Phils and Trenton Thunder will play again on Friday night at Arm & Hammer Park. First pitch is at 7:00 pm. Fans can listen to the game on Sports Radio AM 1240/FM 98-5 & fightins.com beginning at 6:00 pm.
