Reading Drops Sunday's Game, Takes Series Win

The Reading Fightin Phils fought throughout Sunday’s game against the Somerset Patriots (Yankees). Despite plating a run apiece in the last two innings, the Fightins fell to the visitors 8-3. The R-Phils handed the Patriots their first series loss of 2022 as Reading won four out of the six games.

Jack Conley hit a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning and reached base twice in the contest. AJ Graffinino had a hit and a run scored in his third game with the R-Phils.

Chad Bell got the scoring started in the second inning with a solo home run to right center field.

Somerset made the score 4-0 in the fourth frame. Michael Beltre crushed a three-run homer to right field.

The Fightins responded in the bottom half with a run of their own. Graffanino grounded a triple to right field with one out. He scored on Simon Muzziotti’s RBI groundout.

Brandon Lockridge hit a solo shot in the top of the sixth inning to give Somerset a 6-1 lead.

Sal Gozzo and Johan Rojas each reached base on singles with one out in the bottom half. They were stranded after a strikeout and groundout ended the inning.

Each team scored a run in their half of the eighth inning. Elijah Dunham led off the top half with a solo shot

Conley followed with a leadoff solo home run of his own in the bottom half. In the next at-bat, Kevin Vicuna lined a double to left field, but he was left there.

The Fightins held the Patriots scoreless in the top of the ninth inning.

The home team led off the bottom half with two walks by Muzziotti and Vito Friscia. Jhailyn Ortiz hit a ground ball to advance Muzziotti to third base and force Friscia out at second. Aldrem Corredor plated Muzziotti with an RBI groundout. Conley reached on a walk to put runners at second and first, but a flyout ended the game.

Noah Skirrow started on the mound for the R-Phils. He went 4.1 innings and gave up six runs on 10 hits while striking out six.

McKinley Moore relieved Skirrow with one out in the fifth inning. Through 2.2 innings, he gave up one run on four hits and finished with three strikeouts.

Brian Marconi came on for the eighth inning. He gave up one run on a solo home run.

Bubby Rossman pitched a clean ninth inning without giving up a hit and striking out two.
