Strong Pitching, De La Cruz Blast Pushes Fightins Over Senators

The Reading Fightin Phils topped the Harrisburg Senators 3-1 in a daytime contest. Reading held a shutout into the ninth inning, but Brian Marconi got the job done for his league leading 16th save of the season. Ethan Lindow threw a quality start for his fourth win. Carlos De La Cruz launched his first Double-A homer 409’ to left center.

Reading got on the board first as Kevin Vicuna doubled home Sal Gozzo for a 1-0 lead.

The Fightins tacked on two more in the sixth thanks to a home run from De La Cruz to bring in Aldrem Corredor. This was his first in Double -A and his eleventh of the season. Reading led 3-0.

The R-Phils held the shutout in to the ninth inning. Harrisburg’s Omar Merigildo walked to first and moved into scoring position on a passed ball. Gilbert Lara singled him home for their first and only run of the game.

Ethan Lindow threw six innings of shutout ball. He allowed just five hits and two walks on eighty pitched.

Tyler McKay had two clean frames. The righty let up two hits but kept the Senators quiet.

Brian Marconi took the ninth letting up a run, unearned, on a hit and two walks. It was his 16th save of the season, putting him first in the Eastern League and third in all of Minor League Baseball. This is a career high for the lefty closer.
