(Reading, PA) - After coming through as the hero with a tie-breaking two-run homer in the eighth inning of Friday night's 3-1 win against the Sea Dogs, there was Adam Haseley right in the thick of it again. The 2017 first round pick one upped himself on Saturday night, coming through with a pair of solo shots for his second career two-homer game. And Ramon Rosso returned to form as the R-Phils (21-16) rolled Portland (12-26) 4-1 for their third straight win before 8,027 at FirstEnergy Stadium.
For the second straight game, the Sea Dogs Luke Tendler opened the scoring with a homer, which came with the bases empty in the second off Rosso. After surrendering a career-high three homers just a week prior in a loss to the RubberDucks, the righthander remained unfazed and allowed just two more hits, retiring 13 of the last 15 Sea Dogs hitters he saw over six innings.
Haseley left the yard against lefthander Kyle Hart to tie the score in the fourth inning. Then in the fifth, the Fightin Phils went ahead for good when Arquimedes Gamboa led off with a four pitch walk. Two pitches later, Jose Gomez guided his first triple past Keith Curcio in right field to give Reading a 2-1 lead. With one out in the inning, Scott Kingery brought in his second run on the rehab assignment with a sacrifice fly to right. Leading off as the designated hitter, the former R-Phil finished the night 0-for-3.
Rosso (3-1) pitched very well for his first win since April 13 against the Flying Squirrels, changing speeds with his fastball to finish the night at just 81 pitches. Aaron Brown picked up the slack and followed with two perfect innings of relief in the seventh and eighth. Like his first home run, Haseley's second was a missile to right, only this time it came off lefthander Daniel McGrath in the eighth inning.
With a 4-1 lead, Addison Russ was called upon for the save and started the ninth by striking out shortstop C.J. Chatham . Josh Tobias reached base for the third time with his second single, and Red Sox top prospect Bobby Dalbec came through with his second hit on a lined shot into right field. Mickey Moniak retrieved it to start the relay, with second baseman Raul Rivas making a beautiful throw to catcher Henri Lartigue for a run-saving play at the plate. Russ closed it out in style with a strikeout for his team-leading fourth save, giving the Fightins the series with one game left.
On offense, Moniak extended his on-base streak to nine with a fifth inning single while Haseley extended his hitting streak to four, with three home runs and five runs batted in during the series. Gamboa was 2-for-2 with a double, a walk, and a run scored, giving him his second two-hit game in the last three.
