An incredible 85 of his 112 pitches went for strikes, 75.9 percent, and after the first three Cubs of the game reached based he retired 16-straight hitters into the sixth inning. The 16 strikeouts matched Lance Lynn for the franchise's single-game record, with Lynn whiffing 16 in the playoffs at Oklahoma City on Sept. 10, 2010.
The 16 punchouts came in Gomber's fourth-career Triple-A start and bettered his previous career high of 11.
