Raley Field's High School Baseball Program Returns With 37-Game Schedule

February 22, 2013

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Raley Field-one of the state's premier sports and entertainment venues and home to the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats-will play host to 35 high school baseball games and a pair of college games this spring, as part of a partnership between the River Cats, Raley Field and Northern California schools.

Opening Day for the 2013 program is scheduled for Saturday, March 2, when Rio Americano and Bella Vista open the festivities with a junior varsity match-up at 9 a.m. After the same schools' varsity teams play at 12:30, Benicia and Center will play a JV-varsity doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m.

The schedule of regular season games runs through early May, ending with a Dixon-Union Mine doubleheader on May 7. For the second-straight year, the program will culminate with a showcase game on Sunday, June 2, where some of the area's brightest young athletes will display their talents for professional scouts and college coaches.

In addition to the high school schedule, the Sacramento State Hornets will play host to the Fresno State Bulldogs on Tuesday, March 26, in a rematch of last year's Western Athletic Conference championship. A second college game-featuring rivals Chico State and Sonoma State-is slated for Sunday, April 28.

The partnership not only gives student-athletes a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play at the region's premier baseball facility, but also serves as a fundraiser for area high schools. While the high school games are free of charge-including free parking-the schools are given the opportunity to sell River Cats tickets to their friends and family, with proceeds of the sales going directly to the schools' baseball programs.

This season's complete high school baseball schedule at Raley Field can be found online at rivercats.com/highschool, while the college schedule can be found at rivercats.com/college.
