The Rochester Red Wings took on the Buffalo Bisons in the final game of the six-game series in Buffalo, hoping to salvage a split. After falling 8-3 on Saturday and not recording an extra-base hit, Rochester fell Sunday afternoon 11-4.

Rochester tagged former Red Wing RHP Drew Hutchison early Sunday afternoon. 3B Jake Alu, in his first game back after a brief stint with Washington, socked a double to right-center field that scored 2B Darren Baker in the top of the first inning. It would serve as the only time Rochester held a lead Sunday afternoon. The Bisons immediately responded their first time at the plate, registering three runs courtesy of a two-run homer from LF David Schnider and a single from DH Jamie Ritchie.

Wings starter RHP Wily Peralta did not get out of the second inning, as he ultimately gave up five runs on five hits in the bottom of the second. Buffalo sent 11 men to the plate and ballooned their lead out to 8-1. The Bisons added a ninth run in the bottom of the fourth inning when 3B Luis De Los Santos doubled off of RHP Amos Willingham. The run was the first Willingham has allowed this season through 14 appearances between Double-A Harrisburg and Rochester.

Buffalo added two more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning after Rochester’s bullpen stymied their offense for four innings, to extend the lead to 11-1. RHP Tyler Danish gave up one run, with the other going unearned following a fielding error by SS Franklin Barreto. The Wings threatened in the top of the eighth, loading the bases with just one out, but could not plate any runs.

The Red Wings put up three runs in the top of the ninth to cut into the lead. They sent eight batters to the plate in the final frame and netted four hits and a walk against RHP Julian Fernàndez. It proved too little to overcome the 10-run deficit, and the Wings fell, 11-4.

For the second straight game, Rochester’s starter submitted just 1.1 innings of work. RHP Wily Peralta (0-4, 7.12) made his eighth start of the season for the Wings, pitching 1.1 innings, and giving up eight earned runs on eight hits with three walks. Peralta was credited with the loss, while RHP Bisons Drew Hutchison earned the win. After allowing two runs Sunday, Rochester’s bullpen finishes the series against the Bisons allowing just six total runs.

3B Jake Alu earned today’s Diamond Pro Player of the Game after he went 2-for-5 in his return with the Wings, driving in two runs for Rochester on Sunday. Alu now has 15 RBI on the season, tied for fourth-most on the team.

The Red Wings have Monday off and will head to Toledo on Tuesday to begin a six-game series with the Mud Hens. First Pitch Tuesday is set for 6:05 pm.
