Maholm Strong as Braves Take Riverdogs

The Braves defeated the Riverdogs 6-2 Saturday night at State Mutual Stadium before a sold out crowd of 5,308. Atlanta Braves pitcher Paul Maholm was strong going 5.2 innings allowing just one run on four hits. Maholm was in Rome on a rehab assignment.

The Braves made it a 1-0 game in the first inning on an RBI ground out by Jose Peraza. The lead didn't last long as Charleston tied the contest in the second thanks to a run score base hit by Jackson Valera. Rome grabbed the lead back in the third on an Edison Sanchez RBI single making it a 2-1 game. 

Rome made it a 4-1 game with two runs in the fifth inning as Sanchez had another single to score a run and Joey Meneses added a sacrifice fly RBI. The Braves plated insurance runs in the sixth and seventh while Charleston managed a run in the ninth for the 6-2 final score.  

Maholm (1-0) gets the win while Charleston starter Eric Wooten (1-2) the loss.
