Salt Lake City, Utah — The Sacramento River Cats (26-33) overcame an early 4-0 deficit, defeating the Salt Lake Bees (29-30) with 15 singles and another home run from Arismendy Alcántara to split the series.

The River Cats bombarded Salt Lake pitching with base-hits. Second baseman Mauricio Dubón led the way going 4-for-5 with two RBIs while Alcántara powered the offense with three runs.

Down 4-0 in the fifth, first baseman Jason Krizan got the River Cats on the board with an RBI double before Dubón made it 4-2 with his first of two RBI singles.

One inning later, Sacramento took the lead with a successful small ball approach. After three straight singles, including an RBI by designated hitter Bryce Johnson, left fielder Will Toffey sacrifice-bunted the runners over to put two in scoring position for catcher Fabian Peña.

Peña got down 0-2, but took two balls and fought off a pitch before lining a go-ahead two-run single.

The River Cats added two more insurance runs in the sixth with Dubón’s second RBI single and a passed ball to score Krizan.

Alcántara lined a home run to lead off the seventh for his fifth big fly of the series, seventh against the Bees this season, and 13th of the year, which broke the tie with right fielder Joe McCarthy for the team lead. In six games this series, Alcántara hit .417 with 10 runs, 11 RBIs, four walks, and a 1.583 OPS.

The River Cats will return home after their gritty .500 12-game road trip for a quick six-gamer with the Round Rock Express starting on Thursday. A Sacramento TBD will take on lefty Brock Burke (0-4, 7.11) at 7:05 p.m. Listen to all of the action live online at rivercats.com, and on the *MiLB First Pitch app. *

  • After lefty Luiz González’s 1.2 shutout innings, right-hander Camilo Doval skated through danger, but kept Salt Lake off the board to set up southpaw Sam Selman’s scoreless ninth inning.
