July 19, 2018

COLUMBUS, OH (July 19, 2018) - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders continue their hot play through the month of July, securing a series-opening 7-3 win before a crowd of 9,884 at Huntington Park Thursday Night.

COLUMBUS, OH (July 19, 2018) - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders continue their hot play through the month of July, securing a series-opening 7-3 win before a crowd of 9,884 at Huntington Park Thursday Night.

The night began with Columbus taking the lead in the bottom of the first on three hits. Yu Chang tripled home Drew Maggi off Scranton/Wilkes-Barre starter Erik Swanson before scoring on a double by Eric Haase for a 2-0 lead.

The RailRiders evened the score in the second against the Clippers and starting pitcher Shane Bieber. Francisco Diaz singled to dive in Tyler Austin and Abiatal Avelino to tie the game 2-2.

From there, Mike Ford added to the lead in the 4th inning. Bieber was scheduled to throw only the first three innings, before handing the ball off to lefty MLB rehabber Andrew Miller. Mike Ford demolished a home run off the videoboard in right field off the multi-time All-Star to give the RailRiders the lead.

Columbus rallied with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the fourth inning to tie the game, but that would be the final hit of the night for the Clippers. RailRiders pitching recorded the final 15 outs without allowing a hit, which allowed SWB to put a run on the board in the fifth inning and three more runs in the 8th to provide cushion for the bullpen down the stretch.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre continues a four-game set in Columbus Friday night at Huntington Park. The RailRiders have RHP Luis Cessa (2-0, 2.08) on the mound against LHP Adam Wilk (4-7, 4.13). Pregame coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. with Adam Marco and Adam Giardino on NEPA Sports Radio The Game and the RailRiders Radio Network. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre returns to PNC Field on July 24 to open a six-game homestand with a three-game series against the Charlotte Knights.
