Quills to Represent SWB in Mascot Mania
Moosic, Pa. - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) are proud to support everyone's favorite porcupine, Quills, in this year's Mascot Mania. Every year, the loyal mascots who cheer and will their respective teams to victory around minor league baseball take to the playing field themselves. No baseball diamond can accommodate 160 mascots, so the winner is decided in an online arena where fans vote for their favorite in head-to-head matchups.
"We've been fortunate to have a competitive team at PNC Field all season," said RailRiders president and general manager, Rob Crain. "Now we have the opportunity to support Quills in his effort to win the championship belt in Mascot Mania. We're confident Quills has what it takes to bring the belt to NEPA."
In a tournament very similar to college basketball, mascots begin in matchups with teams from their own league. Quills will be put up against International League foes, just like the RailRiders on the field of play. The winner of round one will have bragging rights within the league, but the journey to a championship is far from over. The mascot will then move to round two, where he/she/it will compete against the best of the best from each circuit.
Quills needs support from SWB fans, and voting is now underway. This year, there are two ways fans can throw their support behind Quills. One is to log on to swbrailriders.com and vote online, which provides a limitless voting opportunity. Fans may also vote for Quills through Twitter by tweeting at @swbrailriders using the hash tag, #mascotmania. Each unique Twitter account is limited to 25 votes per day.
Round One runs through noon on Thursday, Aug. 1. Round Two starts around 2 p.m. EDT on Thursday, Aug. 1 and ends at noon EDT on Thursday, Aug. 8. The campaign features a sweepstakes where fans can win MLB.TV subscriptions, MiLB.TV subscriptions, MLB.com & MiLB.com shop gift cards and mascot themed/logoed items. Fans can enter the sweepstakes through the ballot or by tweeting their vote and following @MiLB.
