MOOSIC, Pa. (July 14, 2018) - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders defeated the Rochester Red Wings 4-0 on Saturday night at PNC Field. The triumph was the sixth shutout victory of the season for the RailRiders.

The RailRiders got on the board in the bottom of the second, when Mike Ford drove a Kohl Stewart fastball out to left field for a solo home run. The opposite-field blast was Ford's ninth of the season, and handed the Baby Bombers a 1-0 lead.

Erik Swanson was strong in his first outing back from a groin strain which landed him on the disabled list in mid-June. He allowed only two hits in 4.2 innings of work, striking out three and not walking a batter. The right-hander also retired 11 of the final 12 batters he faced.

J.P. Feyereisen recorded the final out of the fifth for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, and worked around a leadoff double from Jordan Pacheco in the top of the sixth to keep the Rochester offense off the board.

Rochester couldn't muster much offense against Joe Harvey in the seventh or eighth innings, getting one baserunner in each frame but failing to score. The right-hander struck out three and picked a runner off base in his appearance.

In the bottom of the eighth, the RailRiders tacked on some insurance against Red Wings reliever Tyler Duffy. Mike Ford was hit by a pitch on the foot to lead off the frame, and was replaced by L.J. Mazzilli as a pinch runner. Ryan McBroom followed with a single to chase Mazzilli to third, then Abiatal Avelino tripled to right-center to plate both runners. Rey Navarro added an RBI single to plate Avelino and extend the SWB lead to 4-0.

Cody Carroll walked a pair of batters in the top of the ninth to put the tying run in the on-deck circle. He settled down and struck out Jon Kemmer to strand the runners and close out the victory.

Avelino starred offensively for the RailRiders, finishing 3-for-4 with a triple, a run scored and two RBIs. As a team the RailRiders tallied 11 hits, with Brandon Drury and McBroom registering two hits apiece.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre wraps up its series with Rochester on Sunday afternoon at PNC Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. RHP Luis Cessa (1-0, 3.00) takes the mound for the RailRiders, while the Red Wings counter with RHP Ervin Santana (MLB Rehab).
