NORFOLK, VA (April 9) -The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders beat the Norfolk Tides 5-2 in the game opener. Norfolk, the top team in the International League, tried to mount a late comeback but SWB held them off for the victory.
The RailRiders struck first putting up three in the third inning. Luis Gonzàlez led off with a walk, stole second, and advanced to third on an error. An RBI single from Josh VanMeter sent him home. Caleb Durbin followed with a double to put two in scoring position.
Norfolk's Coby Mayo smacked a 429-foot home run making it 3-1.

In the bottom of the ninth, the Tides loaded the bases via walks. An infield single from Connor Norby drove in one but Anthony Misiewicz (S, 1) notched a strikeout to end the game.
Edgar Barclay was sharp allowing just one run in five innings of work. He struck out a season-high seven batters. Cody Morris tossed three innings of shutout relief.
Justin Armbruester got the start for Norfolk allowing three runs in five and two thirds. Former RailRider Matt Krook pitched a 1-2-3 frame out of there bullpen.
The RailRiders continue their series in Norfolk against the Triple-A Baltimore Orioles affiliate. The week continues with a game on Wednesday at 6:35 PM.
