The Somerset Patriots were defeated 10-8 by the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in their third of six games in Manchester, New Hampshire on Friday night.

The game was initially scheduled to be a double header beginning at 4:35 p.m., but after weather pushed back the start time of the first game, the make-up of Wednesday’s game was moved to now take place on Saturday, April 13 as part of a double header that will begin at 2:05 p.m.

In the game, Somerset hit a season-high four home runs to rocket out to a 7-1 lead by the end of the fourth inning.

The six-run lead surrendered by the Patriots was their largest in a game since becoming the Yankees’ Double-A affiliate.

RHP Zach Messinger (6.1 IP, 9 H, 6 ER, 1 BB, 8 K, 2 HR) made his second start of the season and did not factor into a decision.

Messinger’s 6.1 innings pitched and eight strikeouts were both the most by a Patriots pitcher in a game this season. Now with 13 strikeouts over his first two starts, Messinger is tied for the most in the Eastern League.

DH Agustin Ramirez (1-for-5, 2 RBI, R, HR) went deep for a fifth time this season out of six games played to give the Patriots a 3-1 lead in the third inning.

Ramirez’s five homers lead the Eastern League and tie him for fifth in Minor League Baseball, despite the Triple-A season having started two weeks earlier than the Double-A season.

Ramirez also leads all Double-A batters with 12 RBIs this season and has collected at least one RBI in all six games played this season. His 22 total bases are the most in the Eastern League and tied for the most in Double-A.

He has now homered in five out of six games for the second time in his career and the first time since July of 2023 with High-A Hudson Valley.

LF Elijah Dunham (1-for-4, RBI, R, HR) led off the second inning with his first home run of the season and tied the score of the game at 1-1.

CF Grant Richardson (2-for-4, 2 RBI, R, HR, 2B) hit his first home run of the season in the fourth inning to extend the Patriots’ lead to 5-1.

RF Jared Wegner (2-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 R, HR) smashed his first Double-A home run in the fourth inning, when he extended Somerset’s lead to a game-high 7-1.

Wegner’s had an exit velocity of 116.1 mph and traveled 404 feet out to left field.

SS Ben Cowles (2-for-4, R) pieced together his second multi-hit game of the season.

Now 9-for-22 (.409 BA) at the plate on the year, Cowles has hit safely in his first six Double-A games and his nine hits lead the Patriots.
