Bridgewater, New Jersey – The Patriots (22-23) return home to the friendly confines of TD Bank Ballpark on Tuesday to open a six-game slate with the Bowie Baysox (22-22) after dropping four-of-seven contests on the road to New Hampshire last week. Despite sitting in fourth place in the northeast division at a game under the .500 mark, the Patriots remain within striking distance – trailing first place Binghamton by just two games in the standings for the top spot.

The Baysox, who limp into Bridgewater as losers in six of their last seven ball games, also sit in fourth place in the southwest division. The Orioles affiliate features three of Baltimore’s top-10 prospects on the MLB Pipeline rankings, highlighted by infielder Samuel Basallo (2), Dylan Beavers (7), and Seth Johnson (10).

Martian Has Landed: Yankees top-prospect Jasson Dominguez, who is recovering from late-2023 Tommy John Surgery, joined the Patriots on the road in New Hampshire last week to continue his rehab stint. The 21-year-old outfielder, who is only able to DH at this juncture, has gone 6-for-22 with a homer and three RBI in five games of action with Somerset thus far. Dominguez played in 109 games for the team last season before eventually making his MLB debut in September - homering in four of his first eight games and his popularity was soaring before his season was abruptly cut short with a torn UCL.

Steaming Rice: Yankees 12th ranked prospect Ben Rice hit safely in five of six games last week in New Hampshire (6-for-17) with three homers and seven RBI, while also drawing five walks and swiping two bases. The Dartmouth-product ranks second only behind teammate Agustin Ramirez in the Eastern League in homers (11) while his 28 walks drawn ranks third.

Striking in May: The right-handed duo Zach Messinger and Bailey Dees in the Patriots rotation have combined for a cumulative 2.15 ERA with each having made four starts this month. The 24-year-old Messinger (2-2, 3.75 ERA) is tied for second in the Eastern League in strikeouts (56) while his 1.09 WHIP and .204 batting average both rank seventh in the EL. Messinger has gone five consecutive starts of allowing two runs or less – he has a 2.01 ERA in May.

Meanwhile, Dees (2-3, 4.15 ERA), has posted a 2.29 ERA while striking out 20 batters in 19.2 innings of work over four starts this month after posting a 5.70 mark in April. The EL is hitting just .216 against him in May after jumping him for a .250 clip in the season’s opening month. In his first season as a starting pitcher, the 25-year-old Dees has gone eight consecutive starts in allowing three runs or less since surrendering eight in his first start on April 6.

YES, We Are: The YES Network, in partnership with the Patriots, are slated to air six Somerset games on the YES Network and YES App, beginning with Wednesday’s 11:00 am matinee against Bowie. Manager of Media Relations and Broadcasting, Steven Cusumano is scheduled to be on the call for the inaugural broadcast alongside Media Assistant and Broadcaster, Eli Fishman. Five additional games are scheduled to hit the YES airwaves this season.

  • Monday, July 1 vs. Reading at 7:00 pm
  • Wednesday, July 24 vs. Portland at 11:00 am
  • Thursday, July 25 vs. Portland at 7:00 pm
  • Tuesday, August 6 vs. Binghamton at 12:00 pm
  • Thursday, August 29 vs. Reading at 6:30 pm

What’s Going On Down By The Bay: Despite sitting in fourth place at the .500-mark, Bowie was near the top of the standings before their recent skid that has seen them drop six-of-seven games. The Baysox have overtaken the Patriots for the league lead in homers with 45 long balls while their pitching staff has fanned a league-high 453 batters on the year.
