Bridgewater, New Jersey- The Somerset Patriots, the New York Yankees Double-A affiliate, will host Lou Gehrig Day at TD Bank Ballpark on Wednesday, June 2nd. The team will take on the Reading Fightin Phils at 7:05 pm.

Lou Gehrig Day will now be recognized throughout Major League Baseball on the date. The Hall of Fame first baseman joins fellow baseball legends Jackie Robinson and Roberto Clemente as the only players to have their legacies celebrated annually with league-wide days.

June 2nd was specifically chosen as it marks the date Gehrig became the Yankees starting first baseman and began his legendary streak of consecutive games played, as well as the day he passed from complications of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), otherwise known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

As part of the event, the Patriots will be hosting an online DASH Auction of vintage themed jerseys to look like the ones worn by Gehrig during his playing days. The proceeds will benefit the ALS Association Greater New York Chapter. The auction will run through Sunday, June 6th at 9:00 pm. CLICK HERE TO BID! (NOTE: Jerseys are not game worn or signed due to COVID protocols in place.)

The Patriots game will remember the legacy of Gehrig and all those lost to the disease that bears his name, as well as raise awareness and funds for the ALS Association Greater New York Chapter.

The ALS Association's mission is to discover treatments and a cure for ALS, and to serve, advocate for, and empower people affected by ALS to live their lives to the fullest.

As one of The ALS Association's leading chapters, the Greater New York Chapter plays a major role in promoting the mission of The ALS Association by: providing quality services to patients and families living with ALS throughout the greater New York area, including New York City, Long Island, Westchester County, the Hudson Valley, and northern and central New Jersey.
