Season-Long Win Streak Snapped in 8-1 Loss at Richmond

July 29, 2022

Richmond, VA - The Somerset Patriots (59-35) had their season-high-tying six-game win streak snapped by the Richmond Flying Squirrels (48-46) in an 8-1 loss on Friday night.

It was the Patriots' first loss since coming back from the All-Start Break.

The Patriots were shut out through 8.1 innings, until Anthony Volpe gave them their first run with a sacrifice fly in the ninth inning.

Michael Beltre scored Somerset's lone run, on a day where he stole two bases, now totaling 23 on the season.

Austin Wells singled in his second plate appearance to extend his career-best hit streak to 13 games. Wells' hit streak is also now the longest by any Patriot this season.

Being tagged for just his third loss at the Double-A level in his 10th start was Will Warren. Warren allowed four earned runs in his four innings of work, including a three-run home run hit by Tyler Fitzgerald.

The four innings from Warren were the fewest he's pitched in a game for the Patriots this year.

Offensively, Somerset was fanned 12 times in the game, while leaving 10 men on base.

The 2022 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue on the road on Saturday with a 6:05 p.m. game versus the Richmond Flying Squirrels at The Diamond. Fans can catch all the action on FOX Sports New Jersey 93.5 FM | 1450 AM, the Flagship Station for Patriots Baseball.
