Naturals take Friday doubleheader from Cardinals

SPRINGDALE, Ar. -- The Northwest Arkansas Naturals took both halves of Friday's doubleheader from the Springfield Cardinals, winning Game 1, 9-7, and taking Game 2, 7-2. Both games were seven innings in duration.

Game 1:
W: RHP Grant Gavin (4-3)
L: RHP Williams Pérez (6-3)
S: RHP Yunior Marte (1)

Game 2:
W: LHP J.C. Cloney (2-1)
L: LHP Jacob Patterson (4-4)

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED:
-The Cardinals got out to a quick start in game one with a leadoff double from CF Dylan Carlson, an RBI triple from SS Kramer Robertson and an RBI groundout by 3B Evan Mendoza to open an early 2-0 lead.

-Northwest Arkansas however, started the bottom of the first with seven straight hits, plating six runs in the opening inning alone. They added two more in the second and one in the third, opening a 9-3 lead through three innings.

-OF Johan Mieses brought Springfield closer with a three-run blast in the fourth, followed by an RBI single by LF Conner Capel in the fifth, but the Naturals hung on for the 9-7 win.

Springfield started game two with an RBI single from C Chris Chinea that brought home Carlson in the first for the 1-0 lead.

However, the Naturals tied it with one run in the first and scored in each of the first five innings of game two, opening a 7-1 lead and cruising to the 7-2 win.

NOTABLES:
OF Dylan Carlson went 1x3 with a double and two runs in game one, before going 3x4 with two more runs in game two. He leads the league with 45 runs scored this season.

-OF Randy Arozarena went 2x3 with two singles in game one, followed by a 2x2 performance in game two with two doubles, an RBI and two times being hit by a pitch.
