Rondon dazzles but Travs strike late for 4-1 win

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ar. --In just his second Double-A start, 21 year old RHP Angel Rondon struck out nine batters through 6.0 one-run frames, but the Arkansas Travelers (30-15) plated three runs in the bottom of the eighth to rally for the 4-1 win against the Springfield Cardinals (18-29) at Dickey-Stephens Park on Thursday night.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED:
-Arkansas jumped in front with a leadoff solo home run from DH Donnie Walton to start the bottom of the first, the only run allowed by RHP Angel Rondon.

-The Cardinals broke through to tie the game in the top of the eighth when LF Conner Capel connected on a two-out, two-strike RBI single up the middle, scoring 1B Evan Mendoza from third base to even it, 1-1.

-The Travs rallied right away in the bottom of the eighth, working two one-out walks to spark the charge. 3B Logan Taylor, SS Mike Ahmed and C Joseph Odom each then notched an RBI single, as Arkansas reclaimed the lead, 4-1.

NOTABLES:
-RHP Angel Rondon was superb in just his second-career Double-A start, allowing just the one run on five hits and one walk while striking out nine batters through his 6.0 innings.

-Arkansas RHP Andrew Moore allowed just a base hit through his 6.0 scoreless innings, facing the minimum 18 batters during his time on the mound.

-With his base hit in the eighth, 1B Evan Mendoza has now hit safely 20 of his last 22 games.
