Bobby Cox to headline Hot Stove Dinner

Former Chiefs player & manger to return to Syracuse
November 29, 2007
SYRACUSE (NY) - The Syracuse Chiefs announced today that Atlanta Braves manager Bobby Cox will be the featured speaker at the team's 47th Annual Hot Stove Dinner & Silent Auction. The event will be held on January 11, 2008 at the Holiday Inn on Electronics Parkway in Liverpool.

"We are honored to have Bobby coming back to town," said Chiefs General Manager John Simone. "He was successful here as both a player and a manager and is now one of the best managers in Major League Baseball."

Cox played third base for the Chiefs during the 1970 season and was part of a team that won the Governors' Cup and participated in the Little World Series. He then managed the Chiefs from 1973-76, winning 304 games while losing 261. His 1976 team also won the Governors' Cup.

After leaving Syracuse, Cox managed the Atlanta Braves from 1978-'81 and the Toronto Blue Jays from 1982-'85. He returned to Atlanta as the team's general manager following the 1985 season and then took over as manager in 1990.

A four-time manager of the year award winner (1985, 1991, 2004 and 2005), Cox has taken his team to the playoffs 15 times, winning the World Series in 1995. Cox is the manager with the most tenure in Major League Baseball and also has the distinction of being ejected more than any other manager in Major League history.

The Hot Stove will begin at 5:30 pm with a silent auction of sports memorabilia to benefit the Hillside Family of Agencies, and the dinner program will begin at 7:00 pm.

Tickets are $45 for adults, $20 for children and $400 for a table of ten. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Chiefs Ticket Office at Alliance Bank Stadium, by calling (315) 474-7833, or by completing a ticket order form and returning it by mail with payment.
