Chiefs fall to IronPigs Saturday

Syracuse, NY (May 19, 2018) - The Syracuse Chiefs were shut out by the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, 5-0, on Saturday afternoon at NBT Bank Stadium. With the loss, Syracuse's record is below .500 for the first time since April 8th.

Syracuse, NY (May 19, 2018) - The Syracuse Chiefs were shut out by the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, 5-0, on Saturday afternoon at NBT Bank Stadium. With the loss, Syracuse's record is below .500 for the first time since April 8th.

Lehigh Valley (22-17) scored the game's first run in the top of the first inning. With one out, Collin Cowgill doubled. Cowgill then tagged up and moved to third base on an Alexi Amarista fly out to center field. Joey Meneses followed with a triple that scored Cowgill for a 1-0 Lehigh Valley lead.

The IronPigs added a run in the fourth. Meneses began the inning with a double. Three batters later, Andrew Pullin singled, scoring Meneses to give the IronPigs a 2-0 edge.

Lehigh Valley extended its lead in the sixth. Amarista led off with a single. Meneses followed with a home run on a ball he crushed over the left-center-field wall for a 4-0 Lehigh Valley advantage.

The IronPigs put an exclamation point on the afternoon in the ninth. Pullin doubled to lead off the inning, moved to third on a Heiker Meneses sacrifice bunt, and scored on a Dylan Cozens sacrifice fly to make it a 5-0 ballgame.

Syracuse (19-20) collected seven hits but went 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position and left nine runners on base.

The Chiefs and IronPigs conclude their three-game series on Sunday afternoon. RHP César Vargas will be on the mound for Syracuse with first pitch scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
