Baddoo reaches five time as Mud Hens, Bats split series

TOLEDO - The Louisville Bats defeated the Toledo Mud Hens 6-5 on Sunday night.

The Mud Hens went down early 2-0, but got on the board with a Jamie Westbrook solo home run off of the scoreboard, making it 2-1. The Bats would extend their lead again to 3-1. Akil Baddoo smacked an RBI single to make it 3-2. The Bats scored three times in the Top of the 8th inning making it 6-2. The Mud Hens tacked on three runs in the Bottom of the 8th, on a Zack Short RBI double, a Kerry Carpenter RBI groundout, and a Jacob Robson pinch-hit double.

Baddoo led the way offensively, reaching base all five times, doubling, singling twice and walking twice, picking up an RBI. Westbrook also tallied three hits, homering, doubling and singling, while picking up an RBI. Short tallied a double and a single with an RBI. Daz Cameron and Brendon Davis also each picked up a hit. Robson and Carpenter each tallied an RBI.

Elvin Rodriguez got the start for the Mud Hens, pitching 4.0 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits, one home run and four strikeouts. Bryan Garcia was the first of five Mud Hens relievers. Garcia pitched 1.0 inning, allowing one hit, one walk and one hit. Jose Cisnero is back on rehab assignment, he pitched 1.0 inning, tallying two strikeouts. Angel De Jesus pitched 1.2 innings, allowing two runs on two hits, one walk and two strikeouts. Luis Castillo came out of the bullpen and pitched 0.1 inning, allowing one run on two hits and one walk. Shea Spitzbarth pitched the final 1.0 inning notching three fly outs.

What's Next: The Toledo Mud Hens travel to Omaha for a seven-game series, beginning with an 8:05 pm EST start tomorrow, on Monday July, 4. The Hens will have an off day on Tuesday, then play a doubleheader on Wednesday, then will close out the series with four singular games.
