The Toledo Mud Hens defeated the Indianapolis Indians 3-2 on Saturday afternoon in leg one of this doubleheader at Fifth Third Field.

Brant Hurter got the start for the Mud Hens today as he comes with a record of 0-1 looking to rebound from his loss from two weeks ago.

Hurter delivered just one pitch until he got his first out of the game. However, he then gave up a single and home run following the one pitch out to give the Indians the early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. He then gave up a walk and a single to put runners on the corners but was able to strike out the batter to get out of the jam.

In the bottom half of the first, the Hens quickly recorded two outs until Jace Jung doubled to left center field to record the Hen's first hit of the game. Following his double, Keston Hiura also doubled to put the Hens on the board making it 2-1 still in favor of the Indians.

In the top of the second, Hurter went out to pitch the second as he only gave up a single while striking out two in the process.

In the bottom of the second, Dillon Dingler got things started with a single to right field. Corey Joyce then followed that by doubling to left field. Akil Baddoo then took care of business with a triple to the right field wall to score both men, giving the Mud Hens the 3-2 lead.

Two scoreless innings brings us to the top of the fifth where Drew Anderson replaced Hurter on the mound. Anderson gave up a single but that’s all the Indians were going to get as Anderson struck out one and got a groundout and a pop-out to end the inning.

In the bottom of the sixth, Justice Bigbie joined the doubles club by hitting a sharp liner to right field. Dingler then walked following Bigbies double, but nothing was able to come of it as Joyce and Ryan Vilade struck out to end the sixth.

Anderson went out to pitch the seventh only needing three outs to secure the victory. He struck out the first batter, then gave up a walk which later set up the 5-4-3 double play to end it, giving the Mud Hens the win.

Notables:

Akil Baddoo (1-3, 2 RBI)

Keston Hiura (1-3, RBI)

Brant Hurter (4.0 IP, 2 ER, 1 BB, 7 K)

Game 2

In game two of the doubleheader the Mud Hens throttled to the Indians 13-4.

Bryan Sammons got the start for game two as he came into this game 0-1 looking to bounce back.

Sammons started his day by pitching a 1-2-3 first inning.

The Mud Hen bats wasted no time getting things started as Buddy Kennedy doubled to right field and Justyn-Henry Malloy brought him around by hitting a two-run home run to left field, his second of the year. The party didn’t stop as Justice Bigbie doubled to right field with Ryan Vilade singling to center to score Bigbie making it 3-0 Hens.

A few walks later he loaded the bases up as Anthony Bemboom then walked as well which scored a run making it 4-0. Corey Joyce then grounded out into a force out but it did score a run on the play making it 5-0. Kennedy then batted for the second time in the inning as he singled to left field which scored two but was tagged out at second which ended the seven-run first inning by the Mud Hens.

The Indians would gain some back however in the top of the second as a ball that was nearly caught by Vilade but it slipped out of his glove and scored two runs.

In the bottom of the third Andrew Navigato connected as he crushed his first Triple A home run making it 9-2 in favor of the Hens. Not even two pitches later, Bemboom joins the fun as he hits a home run as the Hens go back to back making it 10-2 at the end of the three innings of play.

The pitching continued to mow down in the top half of the fourth as the bats remained hot in the bottom half. Justice Bigbie singles on a sharp liner to right field as Bliigh Madris doubles to the left-center wall, scoring Bigbie, extending the Hens lead to 11-2.

A scoreless fifth brings us to the top of the sixth where Trey Wingenter would replace Sammons after 5.0 innings pitched, not allowing any runs and only three hits. The Indians would score a run on a groundout to second base which made it 11-3.

In the bottom of the sixth, Keston Hiura doubled to left field which then was followed by a Madris walk and a Vilade single that loaded the bases up. Navigato and Bemboom both hit into fielder's choices which brought in a run each which made it 13-3 Mud Hens going into the seventh.

In the seventh, Mason Englert replaced Wingenter who recorded the first two outs until giving up a solo shot to left field making it 13-4. He then gave up a double and a walk but was able to record the last out which ended the game by a score of 13-4
