Clippers score twice late, beat Hens for IL West crown
Columbus scored twice in the top of the seventh inning en route to a 3-1 win over Toledo Tuesday night at Fifth Third Field.
The win clinched the International League West division title for the Clippers (76-62).
Toledo (67-71) starter Derek Hankins allowed a first-inning solo home run to Jesus Aguilar but settled down to toss five straight scoreless innings before being charged for both runs in the seventh. Hankins walked two and struck out two.
Ian Krol, Evan Reed and Jose Ortega to throw the final three innings without allowing a hit. Columbus out-hit Toledo 6-4.
The Mud Hens scored their lone run in the fifth inning on an RBI single from Manny Pina that scored Wade Gaynor. Hernan Perez, Jordan Lennerton, Pina and Gaynor had the only hits for Toledo. Gaynor and Pina extended their hitting streaks to seven games in the win.
Toledo and Columbus finish wrap up the homestand Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. in Toledo's final home game of the season.
