DAYTON, OH – The West Michigan Whitecaps surrendered a go-ahead three-run home run to squander a two-run lead in the eighth inning, leading to a 3-2 loss to the Dayton Dragons on Saturday night in front of 7,595 fans at Day Air Ballpark.

Dunn, the native of Saugatuck, Michigan, and former alumni of Western Michigan University, delivered the go-ahead blast to send the ‘Caps to their third loss of this six-game series. The Whitecaps went 2-for-14 with runners in scoring position and 3-for-23 during the past two games of the set.

The Whitecaps scored the game’s first run with three consecutive singles from Danny Serretti, Justice Bigbie, and Jace Jung to open the contest, the last of which gave the ‘Caps a 1-0 lead. In the fifth, Brady Allen plated Bigbie with a sacrifice fly, extending the lead to 2-0. The score remained the same until Dunn blasted a 1-2 pitch from relief ace Blake Holub for a go-ahead, three-run homer to give the Dragons a 3-2 lead, ultimately ending the scoring in the contest. Meanwhile, pitcher Wilkel Hernandez was outstanding, becoming the second Whitecaps starting pitcher to toss six scoreless frames and the second of this series – matching Garrett Burhenn’s performance on Wednesday.

The Whitecaps fall to 28-22, while the Dragons record improves to an even 25-25. Dragons reliever John Murphy (2-0) picks up his second win, while Holub (5-1) takes his first loss. Braxton Roxby tossed a scoreless ninth to pick up his second save of the season. Jung reached base four times with a 3-for-4 performance, while Bigbie and Chris Meyers each collected a pair of hits in the loss.
