Kaelen Culpepper Called Up to Twins for MLB Debut

Shortstop becomes 49th Wind Surge Alumni to get the call to the show.

WICHITA, Kan. The Minnesota Twins have called up former Wind Surge shortstop Kaelen Culpepper for his major league debut. He becomes the 49th former Wind Surge player to reach the major league level, and the ninth alumnus to make their debut in the 2026 season.

Culpepper, 23, was a first round draft pick by the Twins (21st overall) out of nearby Kansas State University in the 2024 draft. He rose quickly through the minor league ranks, joining Wichita midway through the 2025 season. In 59 games for the Surge in 2025, Culpepper batted .285 with 11 homers, 30 RBI and 10 stolen bases.

The shortstop is highly regarded amongst MLB prospects, ranking as the No. 2 prospect in the Twins organization and 29th ranked prospect in all of baseball. Prior to his promotion, Culpepper spent the entirety of the 2026 season with Class AAA St. Paul, batting .271 with 14 home runs and 17 stolen bases.

Culpepper becomes the fourth player who debuted with Wichita in 2025 to reach the big leagues, joining Connor Prielipp, John Klein, and Gabby Gonzalez. He is set to make his debut at American Family Field in Milwaukee as the Twins are set to take on the Brewers.
