Surge score double digits in victory

Wichita, KS- Ten runs on fifteen hits led the Wind Surge to a 10-4 victory over the Corpus Christi Hooks on Sunday afternoon as Wichita won their fourth straight game and took five of six in the series. Kody Funderburk made his eleventh start on the mound for the Surge

Wichita, KS- Ten runs on fifteen hits led the Wind Surge to a 10-4 victory over the Corpus Christi Hooks on Sunday afternoon as Wichita won their fourth straight game and took five of six in the series.

Kody Funderburk made his eleventh start on the mound for the Surge this season and pitched five scoreless innings, allowing four hits, and recorded four strikeouts to earn the win and improve to (8-4) on the year.

The Surge struck first in the bottom of the first inning as Yunior Severino was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to give Wichita an early 1-0 lead.

Wichita scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning behind an inside the park home run from Will Holland. Anthony Prato followed with an RBI single to score a runner and Aaron Sabato later scored on a fielder’s choice to give the Surge a 4-0 advantage.

DaShawn Keirsey Jr. finished three for five with an RBI in the game including a solo home run in the third inning that extended Wichita’s lead to 5-0.

The Hooks got on the board in the seventh inning behind back-to-back home runs from Will Wagner and Cesar Salazar that cut the deficit to 7-2.

Salazar hit a two-run home run in the ninth inning to shrink the deficit to 10-4. Salazar finished three for four with three RBIs in the game.

Notes: Holland’s inside the park homerun was the first in Wind Surge history and second at Riverfront Stadium… Julien tallied his 26th multi-hit game of the season…. Funderburk's eighth win moved him into third in the Texas League...The Surge have won nine of their last ten games and 15 of the last 18 games at home.

Coming Up: The Wind Surge will be back in action at Riverfront Stadium for a six-game series against the Tulsa Drillers starting on Tuesday, August 14th.
