WINSTON-SALEM, NC (September 2nd, 2023) - After letting game four get away, the Winston-Salem Dash rebounded with a dominant 6-0 victory over the Rome Braves Saturday night at Truist Stadium in front of 7,021 fans.

Winston-Salem (60-60) starter Juan Carela set the tone on the mound for the Dash. The native of the Dominican Republic sat down Rome (60-65) in order the first time through the lineup, punching out six batters across the first three innings. In the fourth, Carela allowed the first base runner to reach but picked up his seventh strikeout keeping the game scoreless.

The Dash offensively had chances early, but in the fifth, it was small ball that produced runs. Chris Lanzilli led off the frame with a single, and the next two batters, Caberea Weaver and Taishi Nakawake, both reached on bunts, loading the bases with no outs. Loidel Chapelli had the chance to break the 0-0 deadlock and delivered. The Cuba native smoked a single back up the middle plating two runs, giving the Dash a 2-0 lead. Winston-Salem did not stop there as the Dash tacked on three more runs and led 5-0 after five innings.

The advantage was more than enough for Carela who continued to dominate sitting down the Braves in order in the sixth, and danced out of a jam in the seventh stranding runners on the corner keeping the 5-0 lead intact. His night was over after the seventh and finished the night allowing only one hit and striking out seven.

In the eighth, Winston-Salem called on Everhett Hazelwood who worked a clean frame, and in the bottom half, another run came home for the Dash on a fielder's choice giving the Dash a 6-0 lead going to the ninth.

Frander Veras was given the ninth out of the bullpen for Winston-Salem and stranded runners on the corners to close out the victory, 6-0.

In the win, Carela picked up his third victory of the season while Mejia was tabbed with the loss.

Winston-Salem leads the series over Rome, 3-2, and go for the series victory on Sunday. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m. from Truist Stadium.
