WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (Aug. 14, 2018) - Dash outfielder Luis Gonzalez and left-hander Kyle Kubat have been named Carolina League Player and Pitcher of the Week for Aug. 6-12, respectively, the league announced Monday. Gonzalez and Kubat become the fifth and sixth members of the Dash to earn a Carolina League weekly honor.
Gonzalez went 7-for-17 (.412) across five games during the week, smacking three doubles and two home runs. The former third round pick also collected six RBIs.

Gonzalez was instrumental in three of Winston-Salem's five wins during the week, crushing a two-run home run against Myrtle Beach on August 7 to pace the Dash offense. Two days later, in the series opener against Potomac, Gonzalez ripped a go-ahead solo homer in the seventh inning to lift Winston-Salem to a 5-4 win. On August 11, Gonzalez keyed a three-run sixth inning with an RBI double and followed up with a two-out double and a run scored in the next frame to lead the Dash to a 4-0 victory.
Gonzalez, who joined the Dash after earning South Atlantic League All-Star honors with Low-A Kannapolis, is now batting .305/.360/.514 with 18 doubles, five home runs and 33 RBIs in the second half of the season.
Meanwhile, Kubat dominated Myrtle Beach on August 7 to earn his sixth win of the season. The southpaw tossed a career-high seven innings, allowing just two hits and no runs. He struck out five and did not issue a walk while retiring the final nine batters he faced. Across his seven shutout innings, only one Pelicans batter reached second base.
Since joining the Dash rotation in mid-July, the former Nebraska Cornhusker is 3-0 with a 1.93 ERA in four starts, with 23 strikeouts and one walk. Overall, Kubat is 6-1 with a 2.36 ERA in 29 appearances (five starts) with 70 strikeouts and just nine walks in 76.1 innings.
Gonzalez and Kubat join Micker Adolfo (April 5-15), Jimmy Lambert (April 23-29), Dylan Cease (April 30-May 6) and Yermin Mercedes (July 30-Aug. 5) as Winston-Salem's Carolina League Player/Pitcher of the Week recipients.
