WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (Jan. 29, 2020) - The Winston-Salem Dash will host a Pop-Up Party this Saturday, February 1, at BB&T Ballpark to celebrate the pending historic re-opening of Salem Parkway (formerly Business 40). While an official date has not been announced for the roadway to open to traffic, a portion of the roadway near the ballpark will be open for foot traffic this Saturday.
The "Dash the Salem Parkway" Pop-Up Party will be held from 12:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. Free ballpark parking will be accessible from Broad Street. DJ HEK YEH will provide music, and there will be free activities for kids, including a bounce house. A discounted menu of $2 hot dogs and beer and $1 soda, coffee, water and popcorn will be available for purchase. If conditions permit, from 1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. attendees will have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to walk a section of Salem Parkway before it opens to vehicles.

RSVP to the event by emailing [email protected] or calling (336) 714-2287. The first 400 to RSVP will receive a free Lowes Foods Cake Square and a commemorative Dash construction hat. One of the first 400 attendees to RSVP will be selected as the first person to walk on Salem Parkway if the roadway conditions permit. The Dash hosted a Business 40 Closure Party last fall prior to the closing of the main artery through downtown Winston-Salem. Nearly 1,000 members of the community attended.
"The whole community is ready to celebrate the Opening of Salem Parkway, so we decided to do what we do best, which is to throw a party," said Dash President, C.J. Johnson. "This is an opportunity for everyone to come together and commemorate this historic moment for our city."
The "Dash the Salem Parkway" Pop-Up Party is a collaborative effort between the Winston-Salem Dash, N.C. Department of Transportation, Flatiron Constructors-Blythe Development, Creative Corridors, and the City of Winston-Salem. Once the roadway opens to traffic this winter, the contractor will continue working  on the multi-use path,  the Green Street pedestrian bridge over Salem Parkway, and other projects that can be completed while the road is open for traffic.
