Worcester Red Sox to Host “WooSox Winter Weekend” January 28-31

WORCESTER, MA – The Worcester Red Sox will host their inaugural “WooSox Winter Weekend,” January 28-31, featuring interactive sessions with players, fans, and club officials. The festivities are free and open to the public. Single game tickets to “WooSox ‘22” home games go on sale Saturday, Jan. 29, at 9 a.m. via woosox.com or in person at the Polar Park Box Office from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Fans may also purchase by calling 508-500-8888.

Leading off is a “WooSox Town Hall,” Friday, Jan. 28, 7-8:30 p.m., in which club Chairman & Principal Owner Larry Lucchino and Ballpark Design Consultant Janet Marie Smith lead a front office panel outlining “What’s New in ‘22” at Polar Park. The club will unveil a host of improvements, innovations, and promotions. Fans will also have the opportunity to ask questions and offer suggestions.

Fans can participate via Zoom by visiting www.woosox.com/winterweekend and can watch on Facebook Live. NESN is also planning to air a rebroadcast of the Town Hall subsequently.

On Saturday, January 29, members of the WooSox Booster Club can meet new Manager Chad Tracy, along with his coaches and former and future stars. Red Sox 2004 hero Keith Foulke, hitting coach Rich Gedman, and Red Sox 1st Round Pick (2020) Nick Yorke are among the confirmed participants.

The virtual events Saturday begin at 10 a.m. with a “WooSox Trivia Challenge” hosted by Polar Park Public Address Announcer Ben DeCastro.

At 10:30 a.m., fans can “Meet the Manager & Coaching Staff.” New WooSox manager Chad Tracy, a former Minor League third baseman who recently managed in the Los Angeles Angels organization, will be introduced and will take questions from fans. WooSox coaches, including Red Sox Hall of Famer and Worcester native Rich Gedman (the WooSox hitting coach), will give their insights on WooSox ’21, Polar Park, and the prospects for WooSox ’22. WooSox broadcaster Josh Maurer will moderate.

At 11:30 a.m., fans receive an in-depth look at “What’s Cool & New in ’22.” Club President Dr. Charles Steinberg and Executive Vice President/General Manager Dan Rea will lead a front office panel that includes executives Brooke Cooper, Steve Oliveira, and Anthony Cahill. They will unveil the WooSox ‘22 promotional calendar, which features innovative giveaways throughout the season.

A “WooSox Season Ticket Holder” Zoom Chat takes place from 12:30-1 p.m. while simultaneously, a “WooCrew Session with WooSox Mascots Smiley Ball & Woofster the WonderDog” involves children 15 and under. Season ticket holders will meet such members of the Tickets and Sales Staffs as Samantha Saccoia-Beggs, George Tremblay, and Caroline Meizen. Fans will learn about new benefits and digital ticketing innovations.

WooSox players will then participate in “The Teammate Challenge” at 1:10 pm.

Competitions in the form of popular game shows such as Family Feud, the Newlywed Game, Catchphrase, and more will include pitchers Kyle Hart, Kaleb Ort, and John Schreiber, infielders Ryan Fitzgerald and Grant Williams, as well as “players to be named later.”

From 2-3 p.m, Worcester Red Sox Booster Club Members and Season Ticket Holders can re-live the joy of 2004 with World Series Champion Keith Foulke in a chat moderated by WooSox broadcaster Jim Cain.

Saturday’s Virtual Party concludes with the latest edition of the new podcast, “WooSox Insider,” hosted by Worcester natives Tim Quitadamo and Chris Bergstrom. The pair will be live in the Polar Park Clubhouse from 3:10-4 p.m. with several special guests.

On Sunday, January 30, the WooSox and the WooSox Foundation will be making “Spontaneous Voyages” around Worcester and the surrounding towns, bringing acts of good will and offering good deeds. More details will be announced at the Town Hall meeting Friday night.

On Monday, January 31, the Eve of Black History Month, the club will again celebrate the life of Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson. A morning session at 10 a.m. will allow Worcester Public Schools students to see and hear from Red Sox Hall of Famer Tommy Harper, American League Champions Oil Can Boyd and Rich Gedman, and popular slugger Sam Horn, along with current WooSox first baseman Josh Ockimey.

The day-night double header will then feature a 6 p.m. live reprise on Zoom with Worcester Red Sox Booster Club members and Season Ticket Holders. Membership in the Boosters is free and available via woosox.com.

WooSox ’22 opens on the road April 5 in Jacksonville, FL against the Jumbo Shrimp before returning to Worcester one week later for the home opener at Polar Park on Tuesday, April 12 at 3:05 pm vs. the Lehigh Valley IronPigs.
