WORCESTER - Mickey Gasper’s career with the WooSox has been consistent and inconsistent at the same time.

The inconsistency is about when he has been here. Gasper has been one of those up-and-down guys. He is currently up in Boston. It was the same his first time in town in 2024, so Gasper has had two disconnected careers with the WooSox. That’s probably why it can be hard to grasp that through all that inconsistency, Gasper has been consistently excellent.

A couple of facts:

— Gasper is the only player in team history with two separate hitting streaks longer than 10 games. He had one of 11 in 2024, another one of 11 this season.

— In 102 games wearing a Worcester uniform, Gasper has never gone hitless for more than two games in a row. In 97 games in the starting lineup he has only had back-to-back hitless games six times.

— Gasper is one of the few regulars inWooSox history with more walks (72) than strikeouts (59). He has reached base via hit or walk in 89 of his 102 games in Worcester.

Gasper’s most recent promotion left him just 18 plate appearances shy of the tradititional 260 the PawSox-WooSox have used to qualify for a season batting title. He is hitting .337, which would be the best for a PawSox-WooSox batting champ since Bo Dodson hit .344 for Pawtucket in 1996.

Gasper’s career Worcester average for 102 career games is a remarkable .351. That, with more research needed, might be the best ever for any Boston Triple-A player with at least 100 games to his credit.

Is there a blemish on his record? Sort of, but not a big one. Gasper has never hit a triple in a WooSox uniform.

The Boston Red Sox roster this year has been here today, gone today for many of its players and for most of the season. No matter, Gasper will be happy if he never gets the chance to hit a minor league triple again.

There will probably never be another 300-game winner in baseball, at least not with the way wins are awarded. It is a process that goes back to the game’s stone age and should be changed. That is especially true for starting pitchers who can pitch one inning and get the loss but can’t get a win if they work 4 2/3.

Here is one suggestion. The winning pitcher is the one who records the most out for the winning team. The parameters for losses remain the same as they are now.

Under this system, the won-lost records would look substantially different for many WooSox pitchers. For instance:

Jack Anderson would be 7-4, not 2-4. Jake Bennett would be 5-2, not 3-2. Angel Bastardo would be 0-1, not 6-1; Raymond Burgos 5-6 instead of 3-6, Alec Gamboa 4-4 and not 2-3, Tyler Uberstine 4-1 and not 1-1, Noah Song 5-2 instead of 2-2, Eduardo Rivera 3-2 not 6-2, and Wyatt Olds 0-6 not 5-6.

Vinny Capra’s recent 14-game hitting streak is tied for third-longest in WooSox history. The best is the 35-game streak put together by Yairo Munoz in 2021, the best in Red Sox organization — majors and minors — history. Kristian Campbell hit in 15 straight last summer. Jorge Alfaro and Ceddanne Rafaela both had 14-game streaks in 2023, Alfaro’s beginning on opening day. Capra was 22 for 47 (.468) during his streak with two home runs and nine RBIs. … May not be relevant, but worth a mention — the oldest living former Boston Triple-A player is Ken Aspromonte, who was with San Francisco in 1956 and turns 95 next month. The oldest living former Boston Triple-A manager is Joe Morgan, who managed the PawSox from 1974-82 and turns 96 in November. …

Thanks to Rachel Toth, the Suites and Catering Manager at Polar Park, for this tidbit — Thursday night’s crowd of 6,528 fans consumed 2,868 beers at $2 apiece, and an overall total of 3,405 hot dogs during Worcester’s “Deuces Wild” promotion. Led by Charles Tillem, Oak View Group General Manager, and Marcus Mosley, Interim Concessions Manager, the popular “Deuces Wild” promotion takes place during Thursday night summer home games at Polar Park. Fans are allowed to purchase $2 Hot Dogs (Coney Island and Hebrew Nationals), $2 12-ounce drafts of Coors Light and Masshole Light Lager, and $2 bottles of Polar water. The next Deuces Wild promo is on Thursday, August 27 when the WooSox host Scranton/Wilkes-Barre at 6:05 pm and the beer deal will be running from August 21-27.

RHP John Brebbia of Sharon is the third WooSox player who was born in Massachusetts. Jamie Westrook (Holyoke) and Rich Hill (Milton) are the others. The Bay State has moved ahead of such places as North Dakota, Wisconsin and Oregon (2 apiece) in that category. Recent rehabber Adley Rutschman and pitcher Jake Thompson are the two Oregonians. … Mikey Romero’s home run Sunday was his 21st for the WooSox. He is tied for 12th on the teams all-time list in that category, joining David Hamilton and Nate Eaton. Romero has hit productive homers, 12 with somebody on base and only nine solo. … Since Tsung-Che Cheng hit for the franchise’s only cycle on April 10, eight players have been one hit away. Both Franklin Arias and Jason Delay came close last week. Delay missed by a double, just the six of 57 “almosts” to not have that hit. Two other WooSox catchers have had close calls, Connor Wong twice and Jorge Alfaro.

This is way down on the streak list, but WooSox catchers have gone 41 straight games without being charged with a passed ball. … Polar Park fans witnessed some unfortunate team history Saturday in Worcester’s 7-5 loss to Buffalo. The home team’s 17 runners left on base established a club record in that department. … The weather is occasionally warm in Syracuse, where the WooSox will be this week, and if it is on this visit there could be some impressive scores. Worcester is 33-26 all-time at NBT Bank Park and has hit 100 home runs in those 59 games. The Mets have hit 79 of their own.

Longtime WooSox pitcher Bryan Mata is in Japan, pitching well for the Yomiuri Giants. Mata is 6-4 with one save for that team.

Rio Gomez spent part of 2023 pitching for Worcester and is on his third pro team of the 2026 season. He is with the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League after spending time in the Mexican League with Dos Laredos and Monterrey.

Veteran reliever Tayler Scott is with Union Laguna of the Mexican League after opening the year with Triple-A Gwinnett of the International League. Scott is 1-0 with Union Laguna and was 1-0 with Gwinnett. He worked two games for the WooSox in 2023.
