The Pawtucket Red Sox will introduce a new community initiative to help place shelter puppies and dogs with families. "Pups in the Park" will showcase dogs eligible to become family pets at most weekend games, particularly Friday night and Sunday afternoons. Various New England charities that save dogs from being destroyed will bring their canines to McCoy Stadium, where fans can see them in PawSox pregame ceremonies and meet them in the PawSox' Vertikal 6 Fan Center on the Main Concourse.

"We were struck by the number of charities in Rhode Island and beyond that are so passionately committed to this issue," said PawSox President Dr. Charles Steinberg. "The PawSox are happy to use our ballpark as a platform to save these animals hoping for a loving home. We hope the PawSox can be a conduit to introduce these pets to their forever families."

Rescue groups currently slated to attend PawSox games this season include: Friends of Homeless Animals, Abandoned Dogs of RI, Friends of Attleboro Animal Shelter, Rhode Home Rescue, Save One Soul Animal Rescue League, and Long Trail Canine Rescue. The club is open to partnerships with all such organizations.

Interested rescue organizations who would like to find homes for some of their canines can contact Joe Bradlee, Director of Communications and Community Relations at [email protected], or call 401-724-7300.
