Castellanos, Marquez Lead Isotopes to 6-2 Victory

September 3, 2016

Powered by Alex Castellanos' bat and Germen Marquez's arm, the Isotopes (69-72) defeated the El Paso Chihuahuas on Saturday night 6-2 in a game that took just two hours and 11 minutes.

Marquez was dominant on the mound for the Isotopes, allowing two runs on just three hits over seven innings of work. The right-hander struck out five Chihuahuas while not surrendering a walk.

Offensively for the Isotopes, Alex Castellanos led the way, recording two home runs on the night. The 30-year-old utility man connected on his first home run in the top of the fifth inning, a two-run bomb over the left field wall. He then belted his second of the game, a solo shot, in the ninth inning.

Infielder Joey Wong knocked home a pair of runs for the Isotopes on a single and a ground out, while outfielder Brandon Barnes also notched an RBI on the evening.

Outfielder Mike Tauchman finished the contest 1-for-4, extending his hitting streak to 23 games, a career-high and Isotopes record.

The Isotopes and Chihuahuas continue their series tomorrow from El Paso when Harrison Musgrave (8-7, 4.17) takes the hill for Albuquerque. The Chihuahuas will counter with Frank Garces (6-8, 4.45). First pitch from Southwest University Park is set for 6:05 p.m.
