The Sky Carp closed out their six-game series with the Great Lakes Loons in fine form Sunday afternoon, winning 7-6 in thrilling fashion at ABC Supply Stadium.

The game’s outcome wasn’t decided until Brandon Compton made a beautiful running catch to take an extra-base hit and game-tying RBI away from Loons shortstop Eduardo Guerrero for the third out in the ninth.

Prior to that, Compton had been a star at the plate as well, hitting a first-inning solo home run and then giving the Carp the lead for good with a two-run double in the sixth inning.

The Sky Carp offense was consistently in action scoring two runs in three different frames. They recorded a pair of two-out RBI hits in the second, with Jesus Hernandez and Juan Matheus doing the trick.

The Carp also got outstanding work from their bullpen, as Luis Ramirez (1-0) picked up the win with 2 2-3 solid frames and Cade Austin and Justin Storm (second save) combined for three scoreless frames to finish the game.

The Sky Carp will now head on the road for their longest road trip of the season. The Carp will play at Lake County beginning on Tuesday, and after the series with the Captains is complete, they will head to Fort Wayne for another six-game set.

The Carp will be back home at ABC Supply Stadium Tuesday, May 12 when they host the Peoria Chiefs at 6:05 p.m.
