PEORIA—One bad inning led to the Beloit Sky Carp’s downfall Sunday afternoon.
The Sky Carp led the Peoria Chiefs 2-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, but the Chiefs plated four runs to overtake Beloit, winning 5-2 for their fourth straight win to conclude the series.
Beloit trailed 1-0 in the second inning when Jake Thompson connected for his team-leading sixth home run of the season, a two-run blast that gave the Sky Carp the advantage.
Jared Poland, making his second start this week, allowed just one run in four innings. Yeuris Jimenez (1-1) allowed four runs in 2-3 of an inning to take the loss.
Beloit got strong performances out of the bullpen from Franklin Sanchez, Caleb Wurster and Chandler Jozwiak, who combined to allow just three baserunners in the final three-plus innings of the game.
Beloit will return home to ABC Supply Stadium take on the Quad Cities River Bandits in a week-long set beginning Tuesday at 6:35 p.m.
The Beloit Sky Carp are the High-A Affiliate of the Miami Marlins and play their games at ABC Supply Stadium -- the heart of the Riverbend District.
