The Phillies elevated four former BlueClaws pitchers to their 40-man roster on Monday, selecting the contracts of Ranger Suárez, Seranthony Domínguez, Franklyn Kilomé, and José Taveras.
Suarez was a BlueClaw in 2017 while Dominguez, Kilome, and Taveras were all BlueClaws in 2016 and pitched for the BlueClaws during the post-season last year.
Suarez, 22, began the year with the BlueClaws and went 6-2 with a 1.59 ERA over 14 starts, adding 90 strikeouts over 85 innings pitched. He was promoted to Clearwater in June after being named to the 2017 South Atlantic League All-Star Game. He threw at least seven innings in seven of his 14 starts with the BlueClaws and took a perfect game into the eighth inning of a June 26th win over Greensboro.
Dominguez, who turns 23 on November 25th, went 5-2 with a 2.42 ERA over 10 starts with the BlueClaws in 2016. He began the year with Williamsport and joined Lakewood in July. He spent the 2017 season with Clearwater.
Kilome, 22, spent all of 2016 with the BlueClaws, going 5-8 with a 3.85 ERA. He threw seven scoreless innings and was the winning pitcher for the BlueClaws in Game One of the 2016 South Atlantic League Championship Series in Rome. After going 6-4 with a 2.59 ERA over 19 starts with Clearwater, he made five starts for Reading at the end of the 2017 season.
Taveras, 24, went 8-8 with a 3.28 ERA with the BlueClaws in 2016, including a June 25th game at Greenville in which he set a new franchise record with 15 strikeouts. He led the South Atlantic League in strikeouts as well. He opened this year with Clearwater and earned subsequent promotions to both Reading and Lehigh Valley, where he finished the season. Taveras has led Phillies minor leaguers in strikeouts each of the last two seasons.
This year, 10 former BlueClaws reached the big leagues, and now 80 players have gone From the Shore, to the Show
